The Cheviot Trust used to be structured so that a Committee of Management was
responsible for all major decisions, the Trusts assets were held by a separate
trustee, the Law Society. The Committee and the Law Society agreed to bring
together the roles of trustee and management functions into a single body
called Cheviot Trustees Ltd.
Cheviot Trustees Ltd is a company limited by guarantee so no shares can be
offered to any party. The directors of Cheviot Trustees Ltd are the same people
who used to serve on the Committee of Management.
The Board is conscious of the need to have appropriate expertise amongst its
members, so Cheviot Trustees Ltd has the provision permitting its board to
co-opt additional directors. The first was Elspeth McKinnon, Chief Executive of
The Cheviot Trust, who joined at the outset.
The responsibility for the management of The Cheviot Trust lies with the Board
of Directors, day-to-day management is carried out from the Trusts offices in
Southend-on-Sea, Essex, under the direction of Elspeth McKinnon. |
